Makes 6-8 servings

Ingredients

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
½ onion, chopped
1½ pounds lean ground beef
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 green onion, chopped

For the Sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons ginger, grated
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon mirin
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine garlic, ginger, brown sugar, soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil and black pepper. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large frying pan on medium high heat. Add vegetable oil and onions. Sauté for 2 minutes. Add beef and brown until cooked through.
  3. Stir in sauce. Cook until liquid is completely absorbed and the beef crisps up, approximately 7-10 minutes.
  4. Turn off heat. Drizzle with a teaspoon sesame oil and stir in green onion.
  5. Spoon beef over a bowl of rice. Sprinkle with roasted sesame seeds and serve with kimchi and Chinese greens.
