Some things about Dude and I. We don’t like to over schedule ourselves. We like to take time to enjoy the moment especially when we are connecting with people. This trip has taken us to a whole different level than what we are used to. It has been so great meeting people along the way and the sights we have seen so far is definitely worth the journey. There are absolutely moments where we wished we could have stayed longer. But I think we underestimated how tiring it would be. Putting up a campsite at night and taking it down in the morning for the first time took us way longer than expected. The long drives drain energy too, even though we’re just sitting there.

The kids have been such troopers. We are thankful that our kids are not overly hyper or rambunctious and that they don’t get motion sickness. They are content staring out the window taking in the view or looking for the next group of animals to spot, and spending time entertaining themselves with crafts and books.

They were so excited to see the stars the way Abram did in the bible:
Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” ~ Genesis 15:5
Not just the five faint ones we see from the city. And they can hardly wait until we reach the dessert. Although after experiencing 38 degrees C while peeing on the side of the highway, the boy decided that it was way too hot and maybe he didn’t want to see the dessert anymore. The princess has been so helpful with all the packing and unpacking. The poor girl fell in between the crack of the air mattresses at Diamond Lake but still seemed to have gotten her beauty sleep that night.

But not to worry, nothing has deterred us from looking forward to our next night of camping or our next leg of driving. We are now recuperating and staying with a friend in Sacramento, CA who has been such a great host! She even put up a picture of our family in the guest room. Last night we all had dinner with another couple who drove up from the Bay Area just to see us. New friends are great but old friendships are awesome!

We are spending today chilling and prepping for our next two nights, camping in Yosemite. We realize now that our data coverage is spotty and inconsistent especially in the national parks where we are camping and along major stretches of highway. Expect our next post when we hit Las Vegas on the 31st. In the meantime, we will try to post as much as we can.

Thanks for following along!

 • Yes, my daughter-in-law had no coverage in Yellowstone National Park. Sparely populated areas do not have cell towers & that means no service. One way to be forced to limit electronic devices!
