We’ve all heard the stories… Kid sticks Lego up his nose and has to go to the ER, kid sticks his head between two bannister poles and can’t pull his head out, kid puts a wooden ring on her finger and it won’t come off!
That’s what happened this morning. But did I freak out? No. Ok… maybe a little bit inside. Thanks to social media I remembered seeing a YouTube video of a doctor removing a wedding band from a swollen finger without having to cut off the ring… or the finger.
I had the foresight to take a photo to send Dude who is out of town this weekend (of course he is, because things like this only happen when one of us is around). But in the midst of trying to get the wooden ring off, I didn’t think to film it. That, by the way, makes me a better mom than blogger.
While watching this YouTube video:

I gathered the following items that I had at home: elastic thread, hair clip and tweezers.

In the same way as in the video, I tightly wound the elastic thread all the way down the finger to the wooden ring. I used the hair clip to push the end of the thread through the ring because it was thin enough to get between the ring and the finger and used the tweezers to pull the end all the way through. We watched in amazement and relief as I started to unravel the thread on the opposite side and slide the ring off, effortlessly and painlessly.

And that’s how we started this Pro-D day weekend. It’s going to be a long one.

Flo, that is fantastic information, thanks for sharing. When you have kids or grandkids it’s a great thing to know. By the way, you are a terrific Mom! Have a great weekend, and hope your Hubby comes home soon. Kathy
You are always so kind, Kathy! Thank you! Hope you are enjoying your weekend too!
Phew. Glad I didn’t come home to a child with missing fingers
LOL! Yep. Good thing!
